Organizing Equality International Conference

24-26 March 2017 | Western University | London, Canada

Organizing Equality is a major international conference hosted by members of the Faculty of Information and Media Studies at Western University, and will take place at Museum London between the 24th and 26th of March 2017.

This conference aims to bring academics, artists and activists together from around the globe to address inequality and to develop new forms of knowing, thinking and acting together to guide future struggles.

We have a dynamic lineup of keynote speakers who will join us, including Dr. Vandana Shiva, Glen Coulthard (University of British Columbia), Panagiotis Sotiris (University of the Aegean, Greece), Concerned Student 1950 (University of Missouri), Kate Pickett (University of York, UK), Ann Larson (Rolling Jubilee), Laura Hanna (Strike Debt), Black Lives Matter Toronto, and Miriam Miranda (Black Fraternal Organization of Honduras). Other notable events include dialogue sessions, workshops, art installations, spoken word performance, radical media teach-ins and more.

Organizing Equality acknowledges that we gather in London, Ontario as visitors, squatters and guests of the Attawandaron (Neutral) peoples, alongside of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples. This territory is home to many Indigenous peoples, and we affirm our commitment to support First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, their contributions and reclamations.

A draft copy of our programme will be available soon. Our registration site, available soon on the navigation tab above, will feature differential rates for full-time faculty, those with full-time employment, graduate and undergraduate students, as well as activists.

Conference participants are strongly encouraged to make their travel plans and book accommodation immediately. Events will begin early on Friday, March 24 and conclude in the evening of Sunday, March 26. All events, unless otherwise noted in the programme, will be held at Museum London, located at the fork of the Thames River in the heart of the downtown London.
